美食寻根-food hometown partI=)

September 12, 2008

 morning! =)) big chewy corn! e most yummylicious niang toufu ive tasted!!! phpeellc5 my hotel rm=) DSCN1969 DSCN2065 DSCN1959 DSCN1961 DSCN1950 DSCN1887 DSCN1931  nighttime@ wuhua xianÎ廪ÏØ phpMK8SII php5TAYhd love her!! love her!! yeah!! phpos1AJw DSCN1920 DSCN1926 DSCN2109 DSCN2110   DSCN2115 DSCN2117  phpPC6gIt

hi everyone! by the time u guys read this, i would probably be on my way to Malacca for filming of little nyonya=) be back most prob a week later so hehe dun miss me too much;)

before leaving for my trip, just wanna share some photos i took during my trip to china this june for the filming of a local variety show-food hometown美食寻根=)

it will be shown tmr(13/09) and next sat(20/09) on channel 8, 930pm=)

i had the chance to go to places in china where hakka ppl stay(im a hakka too!)and sample their traditional hakka dishes like niang tofu and leicha擂茶=)

i feel this show is more than just a show showcasing traditional Hakka dishes; i had the chance to interact with locals, and i really feel e warmth and sincerity of these very simple and true-hearted ppl=)

give u an example, i remember on the second last day of our trip in wuhua xian五华县  where u can find really fantastic traditional niang tofu; we needed to find someone who can cook niang tofu for us to film…and a simple dish like this may be so easy to find in sg - in foodcourts hawker centres; it was difficult to find in wuhua cos niangtoufu is considered a simple homecooked dish and nearly no shops will be selling them as dishes-u r expected to buy the raw ingredients( pork toufu) and cook it at home!

so we were getting a little ‘panicky’ and time is ticking away–the bus is going to leave for fujian in two hours time n we still cant find a place..

then whilst we were asking ard, we approached a gruff sounding boss from a roadside noodle place and asked if there was anyone selling this dish ard..he laughed n said of course not! u must do it at home! after learning our ‘predicament’, he said immediately, no prob! we will cook for u and the filming crew to film!

wow….and their place is no grand big shop, they dun even earn much but they were so warm towards us tt we were really vv surprised that they were really vv kind! so off i went like a silly girl going marketing my parent and off we went buying pork and tofu just outside of the shop along the road=)

so tog with him n his wife(super kind lady)and mr niceboss, we made niang tofu tog- cutting, stuffing, cooking and eating; so much so tt i felt for tt moment tt i had a family rite here at wuhua=)

super kudos and much thanks to my foster family at wuhua=) and to all the kind souls we met during this trip=)-i met a lot of lovely kids as well, 3 sweet girls made me a little crown made of soft leaves whilst i was filming near their school, so sweet of them=))-

besides getting to sample gorgeous hakka food, i got to see a side of hakka ppl living in wuhua- being so kind and hospitable=) i really enjoyed my trip to china and besides wuhua, i got to go to he-po河婆 where i got to sample really good leichi擂茶=)plus meeting equally fantastic ppl=)

a vv big thank u to all my lovely companions during this trip( yam!!!seng!!!)=) u guys were the perfectperfect company hehe;)thanks for bringing me along for this trip!=)

thank u thanku thank u!!=))))

off to Malacca already dear ppl! seeya in a weeks time;) take care dearies!!

much love, feliciachinchin=)

Just browse through your blog. And you have left for Malacca trip. Hmm.. too bad. But still there are a few food that I would like to recommend apart from the authentic nyonya food. Maybe you can go to the Portuguese Settlement looking for San Pedro for their portuguese food. It’s a fusion between the Portuguese and locals. Their food is just superb. The taste of the crab and fish just lingers in my mouth for years. Yearning for more. Hehehehe.

Probably another thing that you guys should try is Satay Celup (Celup means dip in malay). The food are prepared on satay stick and similar to “loklok” in penang you will need to dip the food in some hot sauce, where in this case it’s satay sauce. Probably it’s easier to find in Jonkers Street. You can go for the ping pong size chicken rice ball too. Remember to order for the assam fish. I assure that you wont regret.Hihihi.

And there are a stall by the cemetery. The mee rojak and their mamak fried noodles taste good. But just that you need to eat in the cemetery. Worry not you dont really feel eerie there. Hehehehe. Noodles are just right and the mee rojak sauce is superb.

I guess that’s all for now. DO updates more food when you get back from your malacca trip. Hope you enjoy that!!

    Regards,
    Ee Ling
